Roofing for Garden Rooms and Garden Offices
The roofing structures for our Garden Rooms and Garden Offices are substantially built, and engineered to allow for snow loadings and maintenance where necessary. We now offer two roofing options - our default is the Kingspan Metal Composite Roofing and our optional EPDM Rubber Roofing. The relative merits and demerits for each system vary, but we will always try to offer the best solution for the requirements of your particular project.
INSULATED METAL ROOF PANELS
If you are looking from above, for instance from a bedroom window, the Kingspan Metal Roofing Panels certainly look better than the solid blackness of the EPDM rubber option (see picture above). They are also better insulated with 145mm of PIR foam filling (equivalent to around 300mm of fibreglass), and can be fitted all year round. Generally, this is our preferred method unless your building is a complex design or requires rooflights fitting.
Whilst it’s classed as a flat roof, it has a 3” slope from the front to the rear gutters where, as standard, we install a water butt for rain harvesting. A 20yr manufacturers guarantee with an expected lifespan in excess of 30yrs ensures that your investment is secured for the long term.
EPDM RUBBER ROOFING
New technologies introduced to the UK market, particularly over the past 10 years or so, have effectively put an end to leaking flat roofs. With a number of options now available, we always choose the Firestone EPDM Rubber solution as it is backed by an internationally recognised brand with a solid 20 year guarantee.
Since 1980, more than 1,000,000,000 m² of Firestone EPDM membranes have been successfully installed on commercial, industrial and residential roofs worldwide. This product is similar to a rubber pond liner, which of course is more than accustomed to the continuous effects of water!
Fitted in one single sheet without joins, the EPDM material can be walked on for general periodic maintenance and can take roof pavers for heavier duty activity or gravel to aid water evaporation. No maintenance is normally required, although an annual visual inspection is recommended.
With regards to colour - the material is only available in black but is highly UV stable. It also comes with a full 20 year guarantee when fitted by our Approved Installers and a BBA Certified life expectancy in excess of 30 years.
